They’re offering a bleak vision of violence and apartheid. Our vision is different.

Here’s what Trump had to say about Secretary of State Kerry’s speech on Wednesday:
Here’s what Netanyahu had to say:
And here’s what we had to say:
Clearly we have our work in 2017 cut out for us.
The Trump/Netanyahu vision, largely supported by big Jewish institutions in the U.S., offers a bleak future of intensified violence and apartheid. There’s no room at their table for those who dare to criticise Israel or see Palestinian rights as a fundamental requirement of any negotiation.
But our vision is different, and reflective of our growing movement of Palestinians, Jews and allies here in the U.S. and around the world. We’re fighting for freedom and equality for all people in Israel/Palestine, backed up razor-sharp analysis, a determination to fight for justice, and the willingness to back up our words with action.
In a few weeks, one of the most extreme government in Israeli history will be joining hands with one of the most extreme governments in U.S. history — backed up by the far-right movements that put them both in office.
It would be easy to lose hope altogether. But here’s why I won’t: there are millions of people primed to join our movement who we just haven’t reached yet. You probably know some of them: they are struggling with the disconnect between their commitment to human rights and the unquestioning support they think that they have to give Israel. Or because it’s been too hard to find a place that reflects their values, they’ve washed their hands of any involvement at all.
So while the new era we’re about the enter may be a scary one, it also offers enormous opportunity: by offering a stark contrast of vision and values, we can have clearer conversations than ever with our families and friends and loved ones. If they don’t support the racism underpinning so many of Trump’s policy proposals here, then they have to speak up when they see the same in Netanyahu’s Israel too.
So we’re going to need to fight Trump and Netanyahu simultaneously with all the creativity, discipline, energy and strategic and organizing skills we have.
We can do that.
I’ll see you in 2017.
