Fishing ban reinstated as Fukushima nuclear leaks affect marine life

Study: Fukushima Radiation Has Already Killed 14,000 Americans

[…] Why is there so much dispute about the number of deaths which Fukushima could cause on the West Coast? Because radiation safety standards are set based on the assumption that everyone exposed is a healthy man in his 20s – and that radioactive particles ingested into the body cause no more damage than radiation hitting the outside of the body.

However – in the real world – radiation affects small children much more than full-grown adults. And small particles of radiation – called “internal emitters” – which get inside the body are much more dangerous than general exposures to radiation. See this and this.

In addition, American and Canadian authorities have virtually stopped monitoring airborn radiation, and are not testing fish for radiation. (Indeed, the EPA reacted to Fukushima by raising “acceptable” radiation levels.)

So – as in Japan – radiation is usually discovered by citizens and the handful of research scientists with funding to check, and not the government. See this, this, this, this, this and this.

The Japanese government’s entire strategy from day one has been to cover up the severity of the Fukushima accident. This has likely led to unnecessary, additional deaths.

Indeed, the core problem is that all of the world’s nuclear agencies are wholly captured by the nuclear industry … as are virtually all of the supposedly independent health agencies.

So the failure of the American, Canadian and other governments to test for and share results is making it difficult to hold an open scientific debate about what is happening.

The festering radioactive sore could contaminate the food chain

Radioactive substances released by the reactor core meltdowns at the aging plant following the huge quake and tsunami of March 2011 have been leaking from damaged buildings and mingling with the ground water, which usually flows out to sea.

Environmental experts warn that the festering radioactive sore could contaminate the food chain by tainting marine life and ultimately, the humans who eat it.

Fukushima nuclear plant operator Tepco on Monday admitted for the first time that radioactive groundwater is flowing into the sea, fueling fears that marine life is being poisoned. […] the spokesman insisted the impact of the radioactive water on the ocean would be limited. “Seawater data have shown no abnormal rise in the levels of radioactivity.”

Tetsu Nozaki, chairman of Fukushima Prefectural Federation of Fisheries Co-operative Associations, voiced deep concern. “It was quite shocking,” he told NHK. “(Tepco’s) explanation is totally different from the one in the past.”

Fishing around the Fukushima plant was halted shortly after the crisis, and production of beef, milk, mushrooms and vegetables was banned in surrounding areas, crippling the prefecture’s thriving fishing and agriculture industries. […]

Environmental experts warn that the festering radioactive sore could contaminate the food chain by tainting marine life and ultimately, the humans who eat it.

Tepco said earlier this year that a fish found with radiation more than 2,500 times the legal limit had been caught in a port on Fukushima No. 1′s premises. It also said last week that around 2,000 people who worked at the plant now face a heightened risk of thyroid cancer.

This is 10 times more than Tepco’s previous estimate for potential thyroid cancer victims and came after the beleaguered utility was told its figures were too conservative.

Radioactive Rain-Outs Will Continue For a Year – Even In Western U.S. and Canada – Because Japanese Are Burning Radioactive Materials

“WHY does the USA government…”

“WHY does the USA government REFUSE to RELEASE seafood radiation test RESULTS conducted with taxpayer funds?

WHY did the USA EPA dramatically INCREASE the allowed radiation contamination levels to food, water, runoff and nuclear disasters?

WHY does Barack Obama have the WORST environmental record in USA history?

WHY does Barack Obama have the WORST consumer protection record in recent USA history?”

Because the USA and it’s politicians are owned and run by big business.

“WHY does Barack Obama have the WORST employment record since Herbert Hoover and Franklin Roosevelt and the GREAT depression?”

Because the systems put in place to prevent the Great Depression from happening again were dismantled in the name of “free markets” and “financial innovation” by politicians owned by big business. So the financial system went wild creating debt that could never be paid back. Generating an enormous skim for the FIRE economy and guaranteeing that we would go through the second Great Depression. — Diemos

Why I believe the seals are sick from radiation

1. the seal illness is affecting baby and juvenile (pup) seals, and we know that the young of species are affected worse by radiation

2. it’s causing open sores, like the Fukushima cows had, which is a symptom of radiation (particularly strontium) exposure (nuclearcrimes.org calls them “beta burns”)

3. it’s affecting seal pups in the Bering Strait, which gets its water from the North Pacific Ocean (and then flows to the Arctic ocean)

4. the Bering Straight is the breeding grounds for seals; if it’s polluted with radiation, these seals’ genetics will be affected, too.

5. the location of sick seals is where some of the first (and strongest) Fukushima radiation plumes went. 80% of Fukushima radiation went into the ocean; up the nothern pacific ocean first.

5. the seal illnesses started in the “spring of 2011.” what else happened at that time? Fukushima.

6. 4 different species of seals had hair loss – hair loss is one of the first symptoms of radiation exposure

7. NOAA admits they found Cesium-137 in the pups (but then they did the song-and-dance and compared it to background radiation)

8. NOAA has ruled out almost every other possibility

9. seal hunters say they’ve never seen this many sick seals

10. radiation levels are now higher in plankton, kelp, fish…which spreads radiation up the fish-food chain as they eat each other…bioaccumulation.

12. Bears in north Alaska also have hair loss and nodules

13. EPA RADnet did find some Plutonium-239 in Dutch Harbor, Alaska.

14. And Cesium-137 in Alaska air.

The case of Japan’s Imperial Family getting sick

The 9-year-old daughter of the crown prince and princess was hospitalized for a few days for mycoplasma pneumonia (NHK News 11/5/2011). The empress has been ill with aches and pains in the arms and legs (Sankei Shinbun 10/12/2011). Now the emperor himself is being hospitalized for bronchitis (Mainichi Shinbun 11/6/2011).

The areas surrounding the imperial household in the center of Tokyo in Chiyoda-ku has elevated radiation levels. The foodstuff that is used in the imperial household – vegetables, milk, egg, beef – comes from the imperial farm in Nasu, Tochigi Prefecture (Imperial Household Agency, announcement on 7/21/2011) where the radiation is even more elevated and where the meat cow nearby was found with high level of radioactive cesium. (This link goes to my English blog post.)

The daughter of the crown prince and princess spent her summer vacation in Nasu. (This link is also in English.) The Kan administration sent the emperor and empress in April and May to cheer up the quake/tsunami victims in Chiba, Ibaraki, Miyagi, Fukushima, Iwate, 7 weeks in a row. They ate food in Fukushima, and bring some home for their sons’ families.
